In a dramatic turn of events, a centuries-old building located in Kolkata's Bhawanipur area collapsed during a heavy rainstorm. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties resulting from the incident, which occurred in the early hours of a Saturday morning.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had previously declared this historic building as dangerous and susceptible to collapse. Despite this classification, the structure had remained standing over the years, until finally succumbing to its deteriorating condition on the aforementioned Saturday.
Notably, this building held a place in cinematic history, as some scenes from the iconic film "Sonar Kela" by renowned director Satyajit Ray were shot within its walls. In the film, the building served as Mukul's second home, adding to its cultural significance. Its sudden collapse marks the end of an era for this cinematic landmark.
Upon receiving news of the collapse, Asim Bose, the Councilor of Ward No. 70 in Kolkata Municipality, visited the site to assess the situation and coordinate any necessary responses.
